Howard B. Scott | Howard B. Scott was born December 4, 1927 in Pennsylvania to N. Budd and Ida Steinmann Scott. Brother of George C. Scott. When Howard was 16, he lied about his age in order to join the US Navy. WWII was winding down and he felt he was missing an opportunity to see combat. Instead he signed on to an Antarctic Expedition with Admiral Byrd. He returned to the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and served on the USS Pine Island (AV-12), a Currituck-class seaplane tender, is the only ship of the United States Navy to hold this name. He married Ruth and lived in Delran. In later years, he became a tireless volunteer for the USS New Jersey (BB-62) when it opened to visitors in Camden NJ.
